Intel Identity Protection Technology (IPT) places a One Time Password (OTP) hardware token in the platform. This allows for OTP logins to be performed without the need a physical OTP token. This video shows using ITP as an OTP for a VPN. Specifically, this uses Symatec’s Verisign Identity Protection service with a Cisco SA540 Small Business appliance’s internet portal based VPN. Although the video uses a specific solution, the basic concept may be applied to just about any web portal or VPN login.

In 2008, the number of identity theft cases jumped 22 percent to 9.9 million, according to a study released Monday by Javelin Strategy & Research. The good news is that the cost per incident — including losses and legal fees — fell 31 percent to 6. One reason for the spike in cases is likely the worsening economy. Just last month, 598000 jobs were slashed across the country and unemployment jumped to 7.6 percent. www.IDTheftSecurty.com
